I still remember having the small alumunium coupling from the steering box to the steering shaft extension fail on me on our then TD5 Defender coming into Weipa about 10 years ago. I tightened it and finally put a section of coke can into the joint just to get us there. I would say the joint had never been done up correctly from new.

From Weipa, I rang Land Rover and they were asking $750+ for the part (Defenders being different than Discos). I rang around and sourced one from Ritters and had it 2 days later, Cost $25 plus Express Post bag.

Exactly right! But everyone has to pay/do those things. I think the point that Reads was making is that why is Brissy charging an extra $100 for the same thing, they have the same overheads.

Reads you should come shopping in Mackay if you want to see overinflated pricing

Oh I know all about Mackay. That is one of my areas. In fact there in a couple of weeks. Motels there know how to charge. Better now days for getting a room but still very expensive for a crappy motel.

I understand what you are saying but ( I stand to be corrected ) but to my knowledge Supplier 3 are a shop and garage and not just a internet based parts center. Admittedly not as big as Supplier 2 and Supplier 1 but them you would think they would have better bargaining being bigger.

BTW Could have bought from the uk for $110 delivered.

VW Dealer Brisbane. $999.90 - nice round number.
VW Dealer London (not some after market mob) $270 delivered to BNE.

Hello from Brisbane.

Don't want to get into the rights and wrongs of the topic - are apples being compared with oranges given the variation in parts qualities, sources etc.

However, I am concerned about how this thread was started. The question is posed "who is ripping who off" and two SEQ LR parts suppliers specifically named in that context rather than "company X" and "company Y". A fair reading of the thread given the Hobart price is that both named companies are ripping the customer off to the tune of about $100.

Is that really fair? Its certainly on the edge of libelous.

Presumably not the intent, but some future caution might be in order.
