    Make that 4, though he does forget to mention that the chery or some other 4 wheeled quadracycle has the potential to do more harm to others than a bicycle when it goes out of control. Which may be part of the reason why ESC is becoming compulsory.

    And the sealed, two lane cycle path along there isn't 20-30m away from the road - it's right next to the road. Yet these muppets still think it's OK to block an entire lane of the road in peak hour traffic when everyone is trying to get to work.

    I have no issues with the cyclists a little further along the journey riding on Stirling Hwy, where there are no cycle paths. But where there are cycle paths provided - USE THE BLOODY THINGS - or stop bellyaching that "the government doesn't provide enough cycle paths.

    Actually the problem with bike paths, especially shared paths, is that their design is total crap for anyone used to a bit of speed. They're all right for parents, kids and the casual cyclist, but totally useless to the average roadie. These guys aren't interested in pottering around the prams, leashes, fallen branches, discarded shopping trolleys, loose dogs and brats, they want to stretch their legs and boogie. Certainly around SA the off road bike paths (even the newest ones) are dangerous at any reasonable speed, even with a MTB and disc brakes like mine. They'd be murder on a skinny tyred rim braked racer. Australian road engineers are basically not interested in providing for the cyclists who enjoy a bit of fast technology. They can only think of the 2-young-and-pretty-white-parents-with-2.5-kids-on-trainer-wheels model of design. Finesse is totally beyond them.

    It's a bit like you buying a well built Range Rover with sports handling and only being allowed to use its capabilities on suburban speed humps! Boys (and girls) like their toys to be better quality than K-mart junk. They they want to enjoy it too, which is their right until further notice.

    WTF? Riverside drive is bumper to bumper with cars every morning and evening. The bikes aren't slowing anyone down.

    The "cycle path" you mention is actually a multi-use path that requires bikes to give way to the many joggers, walkers and clueless tourists (most on the wrong side).

    I can see your point - but the cycle path that I'm referring to is actually quite a good quality, divided bitumen path that is used by the majority of cyclists travelling that route (most of whom get along at a pretty brisk pace on it). It's only a small minority of inconsiderate ******* who think that they are too good to use this path, and decide to get out on a busy road and disrupt traffic.

    The same cycle path is a continuation of the one that runs alongside the freeway, and is of the same quality. Fortunately these same inconsiderate ******* are banned from taking their cycles on the freeway, otherwise they'd no doubt be out there creating havoc as well.

    I won't even go into how these dickheads behave when they come to the first set of traffic lights at the end of Riverside Drive.

    You must travel Riverside Drive at a different time to me.

    Traffic heading out of town in the mornings gets along at about the speed limit - except for when you round a corner to be confronted by a bunch of lycra clad ******* blocking the left lane (travelling at a much slower pace than the other traffic on the road), and forcing everyone to squeeze into the right lane to get past them.

    Meanwhile - the MAJORITY of cyclists are on the cycle path, right next to the road, getting along at about the same pace as those on the road, without problem. There is little other traffic on the cycle path at this time of the day - the occasional jogger but not much else.

    Further along, they are all riding on the road on Stirling Hwy. No problem with this - there is no cycle path along there.

    But whenever I hear the "cycling lobby" whinging that there are not enough cycle paths being built - well they get no sympathy from me when there are those that think that they are too good to use the ones that have been provided for them so far.

    My understanding of the article was that it's stupid that the Chery is being banned because of some bs rule about so called "safety" features. What a load of rubbish. We live in a stupid society that just bans everything! Lets ban exercise too, plenty of people die of that. OR lets ban food, that would fix our "overweight society" too.
