The cycle paths I am talking about are also very good quality and ok for speed. Basically they go from South Yunderup and most of the way along the Kwinana Fwy, there are also good lanes along Forrest Hwy.
OK lets bring up the speed issue, is it appropriate for cyclists to ride at speed??? Maybe cyclists that want to ride fast should take their bikes to a Velodrome? No different to if you want motorcycles and cars to go fast.

So you've got a business analyst commenting on bicycle safety and where they should be ridden.

I do get annoyed when in traffic and you come across bikes riding two (as is their right) or more abreast. You change lanes to get by, leaving them plety of space. Then at the next set of lights they whiz past well inside the one metre minimum clearance in single file, then go through the red light and form up across the lane again requiring a lane change to keep well clear when you go past them.
If they stop at the lights they form up across the lane in front of the cars waiting at the lights preventing them from accelerating up to speed again.
This type of riding does get motorists annoyed, if they stayed single file it would make the traffic flow much better and lead to less angst.

Was just about to whinge about the two-abreast rule... A bike lane is only so big, why ride on the road just to be next to your buddy when you can ride behind him and not cause motorists to have to manouvre around... It seems odd considering the less vulnerable motor vehicle has to give way to the sitting duck cyclist.
