123Rover50 - That is especially true of the older Landies. If I turn up at the petrol station in my Series I, someone generally makes a comment about their father/uncle/next-door neighbour who had one, or that they learnt to drive on one of these, or some epic trip they did when they were younger, or stuff like that.

If I turn up in my PUMA no-one bats an eyelid

    Landrover hatred?

    Never heard of it....

If it comes along i just ignore it,my skin has got thicker with age.

Good one on the way back from the Cape one year, filling up at the diesel bowser,a Patrol driver says rather loudly he just got almost 600ks out of 90 litres.I said rather loudly just done over 800k's out of 75 litres.

    Didn't like that at all.

I will never forget the looks from a tojo club as we topped up in Licola before going up - it was priceless, and that was with the classic. I was so hoping they'd be there this year when we stopped there in the p38.

I once was told my 93 rangie had independant suspension; to which I was so stunned at the ignorance that I didn't know what to say.

Though now when I recieved a jibe that isn't a friendly dig, I just ask them "why?" And then redirect their generalisations to some sort of mechanical reasoning, and 99 percent of the time they've got no actuall knowledge other than heresay.

    Talk of the town!

I get the jibes all the time too. But just play along and say things like oh, you must be right. But how's that 3 litre grenade working for you? Or tell me, how's that front diff going. Worried about the next hill are we? They all know the pit falls and weak spots.
It's just a case of attack is the best form of defence really.

One thing I will tell you for free though, I NEVER had people come over to ask me about my Patrol. But I always get someone wanting to look at my Defender when we go away.

    Cheers,

    Nino.

Don't let it get to you mate..there are heaps of like minded landrover enthusiasts out there..the people who hate them have never owned one or dirven, rode in one..

They have no idea what they are missing out on..

I cop heaps of bashing for owning old LJ Suzuki's, so I fully understand where you are coming from

To cut a long story short, I didn't join

    Cheers, Murray

    Wise choice.

Here's another thread for you, Epic Dragon, right at the page where I posted a strange and barely literate email from a guy I know who, despite many attempts on my part to explain what I'm doing with my Landies, just doesn't get it. I mean, REALLY doesn't get it.

I'm simply rebuilding a couple of vehicles that will last for a long time, do exactly what I want them to, and which I can fix myself, but he's gotten some other idea into his head that defies logic, and he's sticking to it.

Just got the 'you bloody idiot' spiel (re LR ownership) lol

    It's a bit weird, actually.
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    Cheers,
This landy at mungerannie roadhouse (well actually its on the golf course/carpark dividing area!) has now disappeared, I cant tell you the actual date it went but I think by 2010 it was gone.

How it came to be damaged like this is a good story.

Big desert storm, wild winds etc, new polytank on a rise about 3.5km from Mungerannie pub, it manages to escape the rope tying it to the ground.

It bounced (empty) across this landscape bashing up and down until in the carpark it bounced on the landy at a fast speed and apparently from a bih height... the poly tank is still in the trees (cant be moved out unless you chop some down) just on the edge of the pub area on the treeline between them and the waterhole (just south of the spa).

Amazing to think a polytank could do that!

I prefer to get in first, if I see a bloke sitting in a Toyota or other jap 4x4 in the shopping centre carpark, I stick me head in the window and say : betcha sorry now you didn't buy a Landrover, eh.
    Shock treatment.

    I wave to Jeeps.
