Hi Phoenix
Goodluck getting it in your swivels!!!!!!! Did mine on sunday. You need to heat the bottles up in boiling water for quite some time to get it to flow better, put it in a plastic tomatoe sauce bottle with a plastic nozzle, worth buying one if you havent got one.Cut the nozzle off so it fits in the filler hole and squeeze it in.You need 3 bottles,600ml for each swivel, use the leftovers in your steering box, fixes that little leaky spot as well!!!!

8) well well, isn't this freaky,
i just ordered the grease satchet's of land rover swivel joint grease from british motor imports [$24.25 ea.] and should have them in my hand today.
i went for genuine as i couldn't find an exact alternative product, and because i am having wheel shimmy problems on cornering and thought the genuine product may have some effect on what is in it now.

G'day Landy andy.

I'll take that on board, but just quietly, aren't the swivels 500 ml ????

Sounds like i'd better get the hot water out

I'll second LandyAndy's advice about heating the grease in hot water. The genuine stuff comes in a sachet with a small point on it that you cut the tip off to make a nozzle. Just heat the whole sachet (before you open it) in hot water for a few minutes, then cut only a small amount off the tip. You really want to leave the nozzle part as long as possible so that it can get well into the swivel housing.

Also, if possible, park the vehicle on as steep a slope as you can find, nose high. This helps the grease to flow away from the fill point so that it doesn't back up and spew out the hole you're trying to fill it through.

Defenders, Discos & Rangies by the way (anything with CV's in the swivels) take 350ml each side which is exactlty one sachet of the genuine stuff. That makes it nice and convenient, but compared to the price of the Penrite gear...sheesh! 8O

What sort of container does the Penrite grease come in?

Don't know what sort of containers that they come in (something convenient I hope, but on your point of filling, I expect that I will be of the reverse angle, as I fill mine from the rear of the swive.

If I went nose ip it could be a bit messy

I'll let you know what the containers are like on monday.

As for volume in the swivel, 1/2 a litre in a series 3 by the book

Hi Guys
The Penrite stuff is in a 500ml bottle with a standard screwtop lid, hence the need for a tommy sauce bottle or similar.
I jacked the rear of mine up as high as possible, had 3 sleeper blocks under each back wheel.I didnt do any measuring just kept squeezing it in.The pommy manual I looked in said a pint per swivel.
Goodluck

Ok, the workshop manual that I havs for the series 3 says

Swivel housing - 0.5 litres OR 1 pint (uk) OR 1.2 pints (US)

i'm guessing the the newwer units have a smaller capacity, or need less lubrication due to a different design.
