Highly Recommend Hyundai I30. Had one for nearly 6 years.
Would I buy another. YES You bet & nearly have
Don't think you could go to far wrong by getting one of these

The Wife's I30 CRDI is 6 years old also and I must say its the best car we have owned to date. The only issue we have had was the ESP sensor played up but was replaced under warranty. We had a Corolla before but the i30 is a much more solid car and cruises like a V6 on the highway and very comfortable on longer trips for a small hatch. We were thinking of upgrading to a new one but I understand the new ones have a diesel particle filter which I don't really want as we do a lot of short trips.

While its not a TD l bought a new Camry. We get 7.3L/100km. We do very high kms yearly.

For the price of a new Camry on the road + Fixed Priced Servicing, l couldn't justify the $$$ for Hybrid or TD. Our local dealer is actually very good (small country town).

Had a look at the VW Australia web site and it looks like the only models you do not get are the people movers.

Touran is based on a stretched Golf and is the same size as a Holden Zafira. Like the Zafira rear seats are only for kids or adults on short journeys.

Think this is one of those market differences. Most large people movers have stopped being sold in the UK due to lack of demand. Those that remain are vehicles with a small number of sales. While in Australia it is the small people movers which do not sell. Does not though explain why you do not get from VW the Passat based Sharan people mover.

Went for two test drives today, first one, the Mazda MZR2 diesel, not a bad car, heaps of go pedals were a bit odd though, hard to see out of the side mirrors, rear view mirror was in the way at times, road noise was OK, handled OK, not bad.

Next VW, they seemed un-interested, Hyundai too busy Toyota's second hand section, nothing to test drive, some of these dealers are very painful to deal with, so on the way home we spotted a Renault dealer, which was also a Ford dealer, so in we go, dealer No 5 and 6, no Ford, but the Renault salesman(French as well) arranged a test of a Renault Megane diesel sport and standard version but in petrol(some here mentioned giving the petrol a look) WOW, what amazing cars, I actually prefered the petrol Megane, quiet, went very well, handled well, comfy, very nice to drive, head and shoulders above the Mazda, so 2 down 2 to go, Golf and we don't know what else, depends on whether we can get a drive of something else.

Well it's done, went out to look at two cars on Friday, Peugot 308 1.6l TDi, looked great, low Ks, only one problem, wouldn't let us test drive it, their loss, NEXT, Artarmon Mazda, 2007 1.9l TDi Golf, what a great little car, we could drive this one, 54,000ks, immaculate cond, drove it, bought it.

Interestingly, we came very close to buying a Perentie from Grays Online, not your average straight forward auction, they have a little thing in their terms and conditions, that basically keeps the auction going long after the closing date

Anyway, very happy with the Golf so far

Who was selling the Peugot? Private or Dealer?

Either way, how do they expect to sell it if they won't let anyone drive it? That is weird ....

Car yard, oh he would let us drive it, but we had to commit to buying first

Good outcome I think, all the service history and warranty work(none) was all there, you could see how well it had been looked after, not a scratch or mark anywhere, inside and out.

Can't see them being in business very long!

I am presuming your Gol is actually a Golf, and not some new Mazda model If so, they are a great little car. Our boy has an old one with nearly 300,000Kms on it and it has required remarkably little maintenance over its life.
