I wouldn't even have a fixed phone line if I had my way. The ONLY people that ring it are scammers (by the million, even though were on the no call lists), "polls" and of course bloody charities.... NEVER give to a charity, they obviously share your number around to every other god damn charity out there ..... NO I WILL NOT SELL YOUR $%#@$%#$ RAFFLE TICKETS...... You are the 3rd charity to ring today wanting that

If you register a new baby as being born, you get inundated by the "baby health" based charities too.... Bloody SIDS trying to hassle new mothers when there barely home from hospital while there at there weakest. The assholes either record and contact anyone that announces a birth, or they are forwarded lists by a government department somewhere.

I ask the surveyor if the information is going to be collated and then sold to a third party (the answer is yes). I then ask how much I will be paid to provide the information. The answer is usually "click".
I don't mind the concept of getting something free and turning it into something worthwhile. I collect feral fruit to make jam, and if I ask a property owner for unwanted fruit then I offer them some jam by way of thanks.
However, if I was in commercial production then I would have a hide to expect to get my unprocessed material free, and as far as I'm concerned that also applies to information gatherers. My time is beyond price, and no amount of money can buy me more. If I want to put a value on a small chunk of it, then OK, but I won't squander it on exploiters.
