Maybe I was a little unclear, I want to display the custom plates on the car. Whilst driving. For example, I cannot have the number plate "LANDIE" used with a club permit.

I have personalised plates on my 2a,old Qld style white letters/numbers on black background,"OLR-068 bought as "Re-Issue" which I own,available now from PPQ (Personal Plates Qld) I believe that they supply plates Australia wide now,when I personalised mine the Landy was on Full Rego,then I changed to Historic Rego they were transferred to Historic, so if in future I sell the vehicle and wish to keep the plates I can just apply for new "S" plates or turn it back to full rego. :)

You can't have custom plates on a club permit vehicle in Victoria.
You must have club permit plates which are white on maroon starting with H followed by 4 or 5 numbers.

Yep But you can in Queensland.
One of the many differences between the states.
(Tony, the H is the last character.)
