I had a similar experience getting a tail light lens for my two door Rangie. One supplier was slightly cheaper for the part, but the freight was nearly three times as much as the lens was worth. Told him he was joking and used the alternative supplier.
35 aud for a td5 maf meter a few months ago .... 60 aud for a series 1 ute hood(big box) then 20 bucks for 2 hood staples and 4 copper washers through Royal Mail .... 25 us for a Detroit locker from USA ... Who the hell knows.
So, back to original post ( no pun intended, really!) about rings and postage.
I did it the really hard way. Accidentally clicked on one pistons worth, instead of one engines worth. A few days later, one piston set arrived with all the other stuff.
So, I rang up late at night, and explained problem, and ordered a few more bits I forgot the first time, a few days later three piston sets arrived. A few hours later, I broke one ring during installation, so I rang again. The lovely lady remembered me, ha ha, and said she would do postage half price.
So, all in all, through my own inadequacies, I paid at least double in postage and I must say that the extra postage for one piston set was more than the price of the rings......
So, in the future, I will order five sets, and run the risk of being sent TD5 rings, or delay due to them asking whether I really want 5 for a 4 pot engine!! And that way, I reckon over the years, I will only break one top or one middle, and still have a part set left over.... I must admit that was the first I have broken in a fair old while, but Sod's law dictates that it will happen at the most inconvenient time.

Have to go a long way to beat the postage on a focusing screen for my camera, a piece of glass, about 1/4 the size of a credit card - postage $70 from the states - needless to say I'm still focusing with the original.

I no longer buy tools from GB/Europe unless there is no alternative. Attitude, price, and the bloody ridiculous freight/postage charges have done them out of my business. How about a set of instruction, parts, and service books for a milling machine AU$200, postage $220.

I also find when looking on eBay to be really careful. Often a part seems cheaper but the postage is horrendous! Sellers often do this to reduce the commissions they have to pay to eBay
Yes Exactly, i wanted to by a Samurai Sword from Ebay once (Cause everyone need a Samurai Sword right!) and it was 0.99c buy it now with a $240 postage... Circumventing Ebay Fees, Much....Quote:

This was a very well known supplier of rover parts, they have been mentioned in this forum many times.
