Welcome.
What you do depends on what you like to do. You could go north to the tropics and Cape York, or west to the inland and the deserts, or south to the mountains (including skiing) and the cities.
Lots of choices.
Welcome.
Just a thought , have you considered buying a unique to Australia Land rover 110? It would be half paid for by the cost of you shipping your defenders here. The Australian Army landrovers are all up for auction every month on graysonline. they sell about 10-20+ various models in Sydney and less in Brisbane and Melbourne. They are all 110 , most are 2 door soft-tops with a few 5 door wagons and a few 2 door wagons, There is also the 6x6 perentite. They all have 3.9 Isuzu diesels, have a look on the forums here as many regard these engines as the best ever in a LR. They also have Galvanized chassis.
They sell here

Money isn't always the driving factor... It's time & knowing your car too.
If you buy local, you need to factor in a top-toe service, kitting out, packing, blah, blah... You'll then want to have a bit of a 'shake down' and get to know the truck (all those odd little rattles & squeaks).
Once you've done your trip, you'll then need to allow time to sell and if you need to sell quick, you'll probably be selling at a loss.
That's assuming you don't get tripped up along the way with not having an address ot register at and all those other 'gotchas'.
