My mob have owned the same farm in Cornwall continuously since at least 1254, and may have been there previously as tenant farmers. So it's no wonder most of the children have racked off to other places over the years, including Oz and the USA, or the farm would have been rather overcrowded by now.

Grandfather fought with Micheal Collins(one of many) to help make Ireland a free state 1916 to 1921, which later became a Republic in 1949.

Great Grand father was big in Labour party and Trade Unions. Story is that at the end of his career he was offered the position of Premier however he turned it down as did not want to finish with a more junior position. His name is on the foundation stone on the old Trades Hall that was beside Jacobs Ladder in Brisbane. Last I saw they moved this stone from the city building before it was demolished to the then new building in South Brisbane.
My Grandfather was the master of the Maheno which a lot of members would have seen on Fraser Island where it washed up as it was being towed for scrapping.
He also was awarded an OBE for successfully transferring all passengers and mail from the Tahiti which sunk after breaking a propeller shaft in the South Pacific.
We have his invitation to the opening of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and some other trinkets including a desk lamp turned up by the carpenter on the Tahiti.

A great grandfather of mine was a Scot (MacDonald) who got married in Fremantle Church of Scotland (or something similar) in about 1880. Girl he married was another Scot apparently (all a bit misty this) named Anne Rose. They weren't convicts, he was a marine but we don't know her status....but would not have been a petty crim like the majority seem to enjoy having as ancestors.:D
Mum's father was Irish (William Moore) who died when she was just 3 months old.
Lots of dark red hair in the family on my side and grandson (one of two) has blond hair with a red beard.

Not a direct ancestor, but definitely part of the family, was King Philippe, of the Ecrehous, a small island in the English Channel.
Basically a seaweed collector, who turned the seaweed into manure for farmers on nearby islands, but was nevertheless crowned by the locals, and considered it legit as he traded coronation gifts with Queen Victoria (she sent him a vest).
Favourite quote is:

“'My wife has gone back to Jersey, she was bored, she was old. When you come back again, please bring me a new one'.
Quite a character, worth a read of the whole story.
My great grandfather came to Tasmania from the Jersey Islands, and I believe Philippe is his cousin. The Pinels first came to the Channel Islands with William the Conquerer, which makes me the second one to post here with that connection.
