    A Stupid Phone

I'd like a stupid phone with long battery life, great reception, 4g data and the ability to be a wifi hotspot. I realise that the hotspot would eat battery life but I would only use it once a month if that. In short, I want to make hassle free phone calls mostly, but share the internet data with a laptop or ipad on odd occasions. I'd like an external aerial connector as well. Does this animal exist? I'm sick of smart phones that freeze up, run out of battery and have so so reception. Browsing the internet on a 3-4" screen is a pain in the clacker, I have a tablet for that.

    Hi,

Dunno where Winmalee is, but you'll only get 4G data if 4G service is in the area.

As for the rest.......... an iPhone on Telstra will do it, effortlessly.

I run a Macbook on the net through an iPhone hotspot (3G) and find it's faster than ADSL where I am.

We use The Telstra Active Touch, it ticks all the boxes except 4G.they can often be picked up for $50 - $60 from post office shops as they are a superceded model.

    Yep,

No external antenna connection on an iPhone, but mine works pretty flawlessly in the sticks where there is coverage, and Telstra has the best coverage.

If an external antenna is required it is unlikely that 4G would be accessible.

Battery life (2yo 4S) is as good as any phone I've had, with location services etc turned off.

    cheers, DL

I doubt if you will get a phone that is a wifi hotspot 802.11 in its own right. Bluetooth yes to share data. There is always Earl device featured in this forum. If you find an external antenna let us know

If you think an iphone has good reception and battery then we will have to agree to differ. I threw mine away. We've got a simple Nokia phone used in the business and we only charge it once every few weeks.....and it makes and receives calls and emails without any hassle what so ever. If it had a wifi hotspot to share the data it would be perfect.

I'm on the iPhone bandwagon - my 4S used to last days between charges, my iPhone 5S which is only a few months old lasts an easy 3 days when being used a bit!

Both are used as hotspots and the only area (with Optus) that I've had drama with internet/3G speed is at Cape York.

    Highly recommended.

Plus you can wifi hotspot with them, so if battery life is an issue you can either plug it in to charge while you use it, or if used on a laptop, plug it in via cable and charge while using it.

    Cheers

I have an older HTC - works great, get 3 days out of a charge and I make and receive a lot of calls on it (its my work phone). Reception is good, and it works great on the hands free in the dunny door. Work recently gave me an iPhone 4S which chews through the battery in under a day making and recieving the same amount of calls, works like **** on the hands free and is generally a PITA for phone calls - good at a lot of things, but not phone calls.

I've handed it back and one back to the old HTC.... Far superior for the one thing I use it for. All the other stuff I do on my ipad.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
