    Polluters from the north !!

If people do not believe the scientists then they can come to Hobart and will find that the effect of the sun here is heaps more severe than in Qld.
The burning sensation in the skin is very bad and the UV readings are very high.

Four new gases will contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer

WORRIED scientists say they have found four new ozone-destroying gases in the atmosphere, most likely put there by humans in the past 50-odd years despite a ban on these dangerous compounds.

It is the first time since the 1990s that new substances damaging to Earth's stratospheric shield have been found, and others may be out there, they said.

    .

That is interesting. What are the stats. for melanomas, & other skin cancers due to the sun , is it increasing? Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I thought a large part of the reason that the sun seems to burn you so much in Tasmania is because the air there is so clean. Doesn't the low humidity and the absence of other particles in the air allow more radiation to reach the ground?

For a similar reason, it is often easier to get sunburned in Canberra than in Darwin.

Tasmania doesn't have the protective layer of pollution that parts of the north island have.

That has nothing to do with the scientists' concerns, but explains the burning sensation in Hobart.

This increase in ozone eating gasses would have nothing at all to do with the selling of carbon credits to the E.U by China, a process that made it more profitable to produce good in an environmentally damaging way and capture the emissions to treat them so they get to sell carbon credits, rather than use a more modern method that produced /used none of those gases. Now if that treatment equipment is not 100% , not an issue as we still get paid as if we're treating all the emissions.

Allan, Launceston and Canberra have the highest air pollution rates in Australia (see CSIRO DAR), Google TAPM and you will see how Melbournes' Air Pollution eventually ends up on the NW coast of Tasmania, Regards Frank.
