My grand daughter always has a house full of rescued cats...their health is more important than her kids!
They've also recently enacted a new reg requiring cat sterilisation before sale but she knows many on FB who won't bother.
This is just another bit of un-policable regulating like curfews, enacted purely to make us think that they're actually doing something.

New suburbs in Canberra are all cat free except if they live in a cat run. Any cats found out are impounded (supposedly).
I know of a fellow who has a cat trap setup in his backyard. Any cat that is caught is taken to the local pound and deposited in the after hours cages and if the owners want them back they have to pay a decent fee - some of his neighbours almost have an account at the local pound to make the process of paying for their cats when being recovered easier.

Absolute & Utter nonsence.
I can see plenty on here are going to disagree with me, couldn't care less.
We've had the same ban in Kingston for years.
I've grown up with cats, had 'em for over 60 yrs,...love 'em to death.
Geez there's people in our area that'll blame cats for the end of the earth.
We've had people in the local paper blaming cats for this that & the other, without being able to come up with a scrap of evidence when challenged.
We had two cats for over 20 yrs, always had plenty of birds & possums in our garden too. Never had any problems with them,....except when the ranger found one in the park across the road,...took him to the pound,...30ks away, despite the little fella having an id disc & P.N. on him,...so had to travel 30ks & pay a $50 fine. Asked why the Ranger never rang the P.N. before taking him away?,....."Oh, I don't know, we'll have to get back to you on that". Of course they never did,...but they did say that if he was caught out again, it'd be a $400 fine. Absolute B.S.
And if you think I love cats, yeah, you'd be right.

just a good reading for those that do not believe that cats are an awesome hunting machine and should be keep under control.

Cats should be locked up if kept as pets. My brother has a cat run for his two for the last 10 years. That's the way to go.

But I personally think the best cat is a dead cat :D:wasntme:

So everyone has to keep cats inside a house or cage 24/7....
how fair is that to any animal,
Night time fair enough, but during the day also

I can remember not long after moving onto the estate were I live , the guy from the council came around and was replanting new trees ,on the nature strip . I was talking to him and said I'm looking forward to the new trees growing , and said It will be nice to have native birds around us . His reply was you'll never have the parrots around here because there are too many cat owners . At the time I thought he was talking bull . Do you know we never see a single parrot around here and haven't in 25 years , but let me say there are no end of cats , not only in the day , but night time as well . That guy turned out to be 100% right . As far as I'm concerned fine the owners , if I let my dogs run around , I have to cop It ..

lock em up - dont let em out.
not a cat fan at all, but I have a cat as the mrs loves them. My cat is HUGE and I watch what it does to toys and I wouldn't dare let it loose on the wildlife around the place. Would never let it out. On the other hand the neighbors normal cats help out with the mice/rats in the stables, but they pee on everything.

Put it this way..
If you went to the Enviro dept in this day and age and said "I'd like to bring into Australia an animal which hunts, roams and breeds at pace... And I would like to sell them to people as pets where they can roam their back yard (and surrounds) and there is potential they may hunt and kill native species...
What chance do you think you will have?
There are some things that shouldnt be imported and Cats was one of them!

Foxes to hunt by the early POMS was another!!!
