    Men's Shed

So a few weekends ago I joined up to the local Men's Shed in Bendigo.

The amount of tools and equipment they've got is amazing. Panbrakes, lathes, mills, migs etc.

Not being that old I was wondering if they'd let me join, but it wasn't an issue.

As a lot of us have projects on the go and it's a great resource of equipment and knowledge - and importantly, a good opportunity to have a cuppa and chat to some of the older folk for whom this is the only social outlet they have.

Just don't try and convince them that efi is easy. .....

I was in a local shed until it closed when the building we used was demolished for a development.

Its a shed with men in it !!!! ,

Its a Gov assist funded program for men/retired men in your local area to get together and do community work or programs to assist the general community , ie, do up old bikes for kids , one shed in Perth does up old wheelchairs to send to poorer countries . They can also get to gether and bull**** about the old days, lol .

Pity we haven't got an organisation like it in Britain.
My shed's nearly finished. Storage is in and the first of two benches is built. The second bench will carry all the machinery.
I'm semi disabled so it's taken rather a long time. It's built around an old concrete prefab garage. The storage took a year. The new roof (replacing sheet asbestos) took the next year. Last year saw the first bench and some of the electrics.
I don't think I'm doing too bad as the UK climate restricts me to only six months of each year.

The beer stocks were in on day one

I was hanging in the mundaring wa for a few months last year, when ever you went past their shed they were out front with a cupper well that is what I am assuming because the pub was 2 doors away

Not only do some of the sheds have all the right gear, but the knowledge base of some of these old blokes is awesome. A good learning platform for the right minds.

Hmm. Might have to look closer at our local one that's been set up recently.

Heard from via my FIL in NZ, that his local Men's Shed was the subject of some protest action from the local women. Apparently they weren't happy that it was a "Men's Shed" and considered it was discriminatory.

Not sure whether it was just the name or if they were actually excluded as SWMBO fired up pretty well when I suggested that if it was a Men's Shed then why SHOULD women be allowed there
