Vicious Dogs

I would suggest that you have your daughter contact the Council and have it declared a dangerous dog, as it may well already have complaints against it,and as I stated before the next victim could be a child, if the animal is declared a dangerous dog the owner is bound by law to have a sign fixed to the front gate and the property fences to conform to Council specifications.

These rules I know, as my Daughter was a Council Animal Compliance Officer for our local council before the Council amalgamations here in Qld

Yes you do need to be careful, I have trained attack pugs, once they detect you they will hone in on your presence and smother you with licks. Bouncing up and down as they do it.

No one can withstand a sustained welcome from a pack of pugs! :D

I hope your daughter gets very well looked after and has no lasting effects from this ordeal.

My wife had the same job as your daughter. The Care Provider company would have vetted the customer and produced a file with all the customers relevant details.
Part of those details would include access information for the visiting carers.
Surely to Christ in all those details recorded on file would have been that the customer had a mongrel dog that needed to be locked down prior to carer's visits.

My point is, when my wife went to non-regular customers, she went knowing everything there was to know including potential access dramas. (dogs)

The dog has attacked and that’s a process for you to follow up with council and police.

I would also suggest that your daughter and even your solicitor have a serious conversation with her employer because somebody has dropped the ball here and exposed your daughter to what was a life threatening situation. To my mind, thinking about my wife in your daughter's situation, it's a long way from good enough and somebody at her employer is responsible for her going to that customer without knowing about that damned dog.

Your daughter has a right to a safe working environment and her employer has let her down.

Sorry Disco Muppet would like to agree with you but its not that black and white:)

a dog could have been purchased as a puppy temperament not always known...could of just been a very outgoing puppy...

the dog is not going to attack its owner so yes I would say it is possible someone could own a dog of this nature and not know it would do that to another person...and I dont believe that everyone that has a dog that attacks someone has it for a purpose such as attacking or has mistreated it.

a lot of people simply don't understand dog behaviour in fact the mass populous doesn't, including myself to the fullest degree.
one of the biggest reasons for aggressiveness in dogs is anxiety and another big factor is medical issues.

it could be that a dog has been displaying small signs of aggressive/unsettling behaviour and the owners were totally unaware or just totally misinterpreted the behaviour full stop...

the most common thing you hear when a dog bites someone is the owner will often say "He has never bitten anyone before, ever" and its often the case that they havent until now.

Im not trying to cause an argument or anything I'm just saying its an unfortunate situation that has happened on a number of levels, but I guess im just pointing out that there is always another side (maybe not in this case) but other attacking cases where people are quick to assume the worst in people/owners thats all:)

Regardless of if the owner had locked the dog up or the reasons for having a dog at all
Regardless of how the dog was raised, correctly or not. or if its an alpha dog or the most docile lazy thing on earth.

Yes, I know, but some times we...................

Tried to ring my daughter this morning.......no answer, I guess she could be in the shower etc etc.

Rang her husband and he has told me she went for an X-Ray yesterday afternoon. They are still waiting, must wait 48 hours to make sure if no infection has occurred before operating.

The local council has declared the dog "vicious" and the other home care nurses at my daughters place of employment want to ban this house while the dog is there. What I don't understand is another nurse went there yesterday and the dog was locked in a room. Damned if I would go there.

They are still looking at their options of whether to go to the police, they have time to make a decision. The dog's owner has made no attempt to contact my daughter to see how she is.

The dogs' owner probably thinks it's your Daughters fault.
If she (the owner) is stupid enough to leave the dog to it's own devices when a visitor (your Daughter) arrives, or more to the point, when she KNOWS a visitor is coming, then the owners level of Intelligence requires some attention..........
That aside, hope you get some good news for the weekend.

Good news, ..............the daughter rang, she is going home!:clap2::clap2:

They stitched the wound up this morning and put a cast on it. She will have to wear it for 8 weeks, after which she has to wear a special "boot". They are monitering it, if the skin dies, then skin grafts will have to be done. She didn't have to have pins put in which is great.:D

Daughter says the wound looks like a shark bite.:o She has to go back to hospital next Thursday for an examination.:)

ps. Found out why another nurse went to the house........she was not aware of what happened........she is not going back.
