    DVD "Wheels Across A Wilderness"..Leyland Bros. 1966.

This is a BRILLIANT DVD of a "pioneering" film made in 1966 by the Leyland Bros before they became "famous".....travelling from the farthest westerly point of Aus, to the Farthest easterly point.
Two Landrovers involved, & just awesome scenery & just good Aussie stuff.
The long wheelbase Landrover is in the Birdwood Museum, saw it last week, & is where we purchased the DVD.
    PLENTY of "historic" Landrover footage!

I think i was about 12 last time i saw them on TV and i used to love the shows. I used to look forward to alby mangels on a wednesday night as well. throw in a bit of malcom douglas on a sunday good stuff all round. I dont think the current blokes like pat callinan and the boys from 4x4 action capture the spirit of the bush like the boys mentioned above did

About 3yrs back my son found the dvd at Woolworths.

I was chuffed because although I had both versions of the book I had never seen the film.

In 96 I put a blurb on the web about WECE, and the 50yr anniversary is only 2yrs away... perhaps an excuse for a re-enactment tag-a-long?

I bought the DVD at the National Motoring Museum at Birdwood in 2012. Unfortunately the end stuffs up on my computer and I haven't watched it on the telly yet.

Great video, first on TV just when I bought my first Land Rover. If anyone wants to know the genesis of the unreliable reputation that Land Rovers still have, just watch this DVD..
Wheels across the Wilderness, Down the Darling etc were big in their day.

Axles & diffs don't like stress too much, like pullling other vehicles out of bogs and towing heavy things - eg, that huge trailer they took with them on WECE. They learnt though, and after that trip the LB's got into proper roof racks for the Cape York trip etc. There's another story - they were perhaps the earliest to swim Landies across the Jardine...(?)
