    Buying Steel

This is a bit of a gripe. Why do 99% of all steel suppliers shut down on the weekend? No Saturday trade, and Bunnings selection of steel is poor at best.
I'm building a workbench for a friend and due to cut off lengths, under estimated the amount I'd need, so I admit it is my fault, but as of Saturday morning, I couldn't get anymore steel, timber yes, but no steel, which means the whole project drags out another week. All I want is a measly length of 25 x 25.
Does anyone else get frustrated by the availability of steel?

All about the economics of it all. Our local steel supplier went from 7 day weeks, to 6 day weeks, then to just half a day Saturday. They say they just don't do enough trade as 90% of what they do is for the trade and they don't work weekends.

It is a bit of a ****, but I guess you may just have to plan your jobs a bit better.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

True, the problem is I struggle to get to a steel supplier within the 7:30 - 4:30, 5 days a week, hours they seem to be open at the best of times. So the smallest error stuffs me up. Timber, I can just go to Bunnings, but steel, I end up screwed.
Although buying lengths does give me an excuse to borrow the truck again, and I do like driving trucks.

I guess as others have said, all about economics, I have a local supplier that is open on Sat Morn and as an aside if you order over the phone for small amounts and pay via credit card he will leave it out so you can pick it up after hours.... not a bad service actually

Try living some place where your local guy adds you order to a job lot that might be ordered today or maybe tommorrow or perhaps munyana tuesday...

Ive got plenty of measley lengths of 25x25 - box or solid whatcha chasing

Over the years I have found that 87.976% of jobs are completed with "x" type of material.
Always ensure you have 75.507mm + ∞ of "x" material in the rack

When I left the east coast, I left both my steel and timber racks. I was depressed, Although it does give me an excuse to rebuild....
