Newcastle Brown mate, Newcastle Brown . The best of a pretty ordinary bunch (although I disagree with the Guinness comment)
I just hope, for your sake, that the rest of your trip is more miserable than the start :D

I'm at the Gipsy Moth pub at Greenwich and into a bitter. It's far better than yesterday's lager. It's cold (not chilled) and not flat. Very nice, actually.
Now at the Prince William having a pint of Young's Bittere
Gday Ron,
I'd try and stay away from generic lagers whilst in the UK, some can be ok, but most are rubbish......
As you've found, if you get a local beer or ale, rather than a lager, then there are hundreds and hundreds to choose from. I could go on and on for hours and hours about this :D, but here's a few to get you going, depending on where you go:
Adnams – Broadside or Regatta (summer only beer). Brewed in Suffolk.
Bateman – XXXB. Brewed in Lincolnshire.
Black Sheep – Riggwelter or Special Ale. Brewed in North Yorkshire.
Everard’s – Tiger. Brewed in Leicestershire.
Fuller’s – London Pride, ESB or Chiswick Bitter. Brewed in London.
Greene King – Abbot Ale or IPA. Brewed in Suffolk.
Hook Norton – Old Hookey or Haymaker (summer only beer). Brewed in Oxfordshire.
Jennings – Sneck Lifter or Cumberland Ale. Brewed in Cumbria.
Marston’s – Pedigree. Brewed in Staffordshire.
Moreland – Old Speckled Hen (although I think this may have been bought by Greene King)
Shepherd Neame – Spitfire or Bishop’s Finger. Brewed in Kent.
Theakston – Old Peculiar, XB or Masham Ale. Brewed in North Yorkshire.
Thwaites – Lancaster Bomber, Wainwright, Original. Brewed in Lancashire.
Wadsworth – 6X. Brewed in Wiltshire.
Wychwood – Hobgoblin, Hayburner (summer only). Brewed in Oxfordshire.
Youngs – Waggledance, Special or Triple A (summer only). Brewed in London.
As you're currently darn sarf in Lahhhndan, you'll be able to get good Fuller's or Youngs beers, but beers such as Marston's Pedigree and the Shepherd Neame beers should be around in some pubs. The others might only be available locally.
I used to work next to the Marston's brewery and the Pedigree available in the pub next door was delicious!
Also words can't describe how awesome Adnam's Broadside is....!!!
I would appreciate a report on locally brewed Scumpy, i believe it can be quite, .......interesting .......:o
A report on Scrumpy please, local brews only.
Anyone got urgent parts to be picked up & flown back ?
