We did those locks on a canal boat as a kid, great fun for mum and brother to manage them all.
Go on, enjoy yourself and get out there, beats looking at the p38 in the drive.![]()
Brunel now he was an engineer with vision![]()
He was. His range of designs are so varied. I won't have time to see them all but a few would be nice.
I was going to take a camera or two on the trip but I'm not so sure now. Anything I want to photograph has already been done and is available on the 'net.
It would save a lot of hassle by not taking a camera and several lenses. I could spend more time looking rather than thinking about taking a pic which no one will ever look at - not even me. I take a lot of pics but never look at them again after uploading to the computer.

RIP Bucko - Riding on Forever
No matter where you are about to travel, there are always interesting things to see, people to meet and experiences to be made, be it overseas or in your own backyard. Sometimes, one might not feel for traveling at all, rather trying to relax or chilling out at home. For me, as soon as I hit the road, all these feelings are blown away and I can focus on the travel and what might be coming next. Curious all the way.
If you are around in my neck of the woods, I am offering you a stay at our place, food and drink included. I cannot guarantee for acceptable weather, though...
Enjoy the trip, mate!

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.
The month I spent in mainland Europe 4 years ago was the best trip I've ever done. The best parts were not normal tourist activities. They were with real people in our of the way locations.
Paris was imo the most boring place. Complete with the biggest rusting TV aerial and worst smog.

Ron, Scotland is well worth a visit. The Forth Bridge is quite spectacular and if you want to see a fascinating piece of engineering, take a look at the Falkirk Wheel..not far away. You would really enjoy that.
The Isle of Skye is lovely and there are lots of very picturesque fishing villages in Scotland, which we both loved.
Wiltshire is very pretty as well. We were slightly disappointed with Stonehenge...don't know what we expected, but it is right next to the Motorway and was VERY busy when we visited last year...mind you it was during the school holidays.
I'm sure you will both enjoy the trip. Sheila and I especially liked Turkey (lots of very old buildings too!)
Erich
Maybe you could think of Stonehenge as an engineering marvel, which it is.
One of the tings I enjoyed about the UK was just wandering around villages.
