We recently spent three months in France and the UK, two of them with a car. Agree about the crowds - it was a problem almost everywhere but that comes with having so many well-known and iconic attractions (and when you have a car, parking is an extra problem). Despite that we were glad we went. Being able to see and touch and experience things that we had only read about was worth the hassle.

It's funny what you take for granted. Having lived in Europe for the first 30something years of my life, and being able to jump in the car and drive to Disneyland Paris for a weekend, or jump on a short flight to relatives in Gibraltar, or jump on the ferry to watch the rugby in Dublin. It's all normal! You don't really think of the people who hanker after such a trip, when it's just a mini weekend break.

Ron, are you going to Wales? I believe that is worth visiting, Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

None taken. I agree with you.

Notre Dame was done early so not too bad for crowds. The Louvre was later and was awful. I couldn't wait to get out and neither could my wife. We were with a tour group so we didn't have to queue for tickets.

We were warned about pick pockets and also to not sign any petitions when asked. The petitionists get you relaxed, ask for a donation to save the children in Africa, then a group of Romanians will surround you and take your wallets, purses, and cameras.

When we were viewing the Eiffel Tower, the blacks selling crappy Eiffel Tower models scattered when the police arrived.

No, Bob, we won't be. We could have as it wasn't too far from where we were in the UK. From here it's an 8-day cruise up the Rhine to Basel then to Zurich for two weeks in Switzerland (Elisabeth is Swiss).

This will explain why I wanted out of The Louvre today. This is just the crowd wanting to see and photograph the Mona Lisa.

Have to agree with you. For a while I was thinking you'd doubled your dose of grumpy pills. But those crowds would take the gloss off anything.
For me, I would be paranoid about either losing a kid or being pick pocketed or both. No fun in that, hopefully it gets better for you.

With all this culture you're picking up, we'll have to call you Professor P38Arover. Bob
