we had bottled gas to our hot water system and the cost was horrendous.
we converted to off peak electricity and could never seem to have a hot shower.
so we switched to normal tariff and then put solar panels on the roof, thats the go.
plenty hot water , made during the day for free.
You obviously had the wrong system - my off peak system is exactly that but if the temp of the water drops too low it comes on irrespective of the time of day - you need to have a large system though.
My system according to the bills does not cut in, but once when I had to change some fittings and the tank was drained - it heated straight away when filled with cold water and power reconnected.

No he just would of had a single element tank, you have a twin element tank, the top element is connected to your day rate/peak which keeps a protion of hot water hot all the time, the bottom element connected to the night rate/off peak to which is heated only at night
I have metered gas.
The bill is as follows:
Supply charge $92.93 (which I assume is just a fee for the privilege of having gas)
Gas consumption: 113.07 MJ @ $0.03735 = $4.22
So I guess looking into it, I should get the gas disconnected and go back to a couple of 9kg bottles.
Cheers
I get burnt for gas just the bloody supply charge if I could get away with 9kg I would
As there is a lot on bottle gas users on this site , I have noticed that the 9kg bottles that are swop and go only have 8.5kg in them , so like many things get a bit less than we used too. Also while I'm on my soap box , have you noticed that if you buy 4kg bottle It's cost is getting close to the cost of 9kg . and yet gas is sold by weight . So my point is there are different charges for the same Gas , As I said It's sold by weight so why should 4kg be different to 9kg . It's not like that if you buy LPG from the servo. as we know that's sold by the ltr. and you can buy as little or as much as you like the price per ltr. stays the same ..Jim..
