jezz Lionel, you'd think there'd be one or two here.........
Hello All,
Just wondering if there are any Quantitative Market Research Analysts Out There? If so could someone give me an idea what depth of quantitative analysis is usually performed within the social/community/government sphere?
Is all the analysis factor analysis, ANOVA T-Tests, Chi-square P or F factors of significance?
I have been doing mostly qualitative research for the past 7 years and it has been a long time since my quantitative based Honours year. Soon as I see a job advertisement that states "quantitative" I have been skipping that job.
While I have been entering data into SPSS for three research projects recently, the actual data analysis is done by people who are on the next rung up the research ladder to me. This means that it has been years since I used the pointy end of SPSS and interrogated the data independently.
Have I been too harsh in not considering these quantitative jobs?
Kind Regards
Lionel

I fix cars for a living. Surely I can help.
Hello Ramblingboy,
Maybe since Land Rover people are a minority they are like myself and prefer qualitative research over reducing people's lives down to a series of numbers! Ooops I think I showed my research preferences cards there didn't I.
I know if you take away the market, customer insights and branding away from available qualitative research jobs being advertised then there are even less opportunities. I am a social and community based qualitative researcher and the demand for this role is very, very, very thin on the ground.
Kind Regards
Lionel
Um...You broke yer what??
Could someone give me an idea what depth of quantitative analysis is usually performed within the social/community/government sphere
I have only really played in the health sphere - but in my experienece "research" goes a little like this (nb see step6).
1/ Bureaucrat breathing rarefied air in a building far far removed from patients establishes a plan.
2/ Plan requires a comittee and project team to establish its credentials
3/ 37 people employed to establish what bureaucrat has already planned
4/ Project sent to expensive external law firm for a feasibility study / cost analysis
5/ Feasibility study comes back with contrary results - so study ignored
6/ Research project established with primary goal to confirm original plan
7/ "Correct & Compliant & preferably related to bureaucratt" researchers employed and funnily enough results meet beauracrats original plan ideals
8/ Plan organised
10/ "Feedback period" where the plan is offered to the people on the ground who will have to implement it. Very very airy terms making it look like changes may be possible.
11/ All feedback ignored
12/ Plan implemented exactly as beauracrat original thought in step 1/
13/ Outcomes never measured so the actual final result that the plan is a waste of time, resources and money is never revealed to public.
14/ Beauracrat rewarded for making such fantastic changes and moves up the chain
oops does my cynicism shine through all that????

Lionel,
After careful analysis of your opening post, I have determined that you should have written "ARE all the analysis factor analysis.....". I am an appropriate plurality specialist by profession.
NB. My invoice is in the mail.
