BATHURST 2015

With the upcoming demise of Ford and Holden (and Toyota) in Australia, and in keeping with the trend now being set in F1 for "quieter" race cars - it has been proposed that Bathurst (and the V8's in general) be replaced with a "Hybrid" racing series.

General Motors is already preparing a race version of the Chevrolet Volt for this and it is rumoured that Toyota have a souped up Pious ready for the track.

Fans will be able to watch on quietly, to the sound of sewing machines buzzing past, and birds chirping in the trees. :D

Maybe they can upload a V8 sound track to the ECU and make them sound like one:MileStone:

The Bikes got around it, they tuned them to suit the quieter mufflers, they still sound great and can go inexcess of 340kph.

Which is mostly why I walked back in the late nineties, Cochrane et al ripped the heart out of Australian circuit racing and now we see it all over again......

Hey, I got out when Group 7 got that political back in the early 90's.

Le Mans have a classification (that goes a very long way back in its history) for efficiency, it takes nothing away from the spectacle or racing, all the teams are eligible and it's a target for the top teams as well as outright competition. It's the reason the diesels started to come in.

It seems that they never truly left the origins of what we like (open, mixed competition with assorted classes) vs the rest of hone world. With maybe the exception of NASCAR, which love it or hate it when you look at the regs (which are nothing like the dissertation we have) are all about keeping it even. Parts developed by teams must be made available for purchase by all others. Can you imagine trying that on with non supplier sourced stuff here? ECU's when they go injected (albeit Holley carbie injection) will be randomly distributed. Even engines are available to purchase by anyone (inc the public) and they aren't $100,000 a pop either.
