I was chatting to a copper the other day. He was in a VF SS. Had nothing but praise for the vehicle. He said the XR6 turbo was much faster though. He preferred the Commodore because at speed in a pursuit he liked to be able to turn and stop.
He reckons, when Ford stops production of the Falcons, they will be getting Mustangs.

The highway guys get some really well kitted out cars!

I think when they chuck all of their gear in the XR6's it makes them a bit heavy for the brakes and suspension as the XR6 Turbo's are just a Ford factory car really. Whereas the HSV gets all of the go fast bits aftermarket, brakes especially.

A SS ain't a HSV.

I thought the Highway Patrol were all enhanced beyond standard, even if just an SS Commodore.

I'm not sure what spec the Falcon Highway car is here, but its got big red Brembo brakes on it that kind of stand out through the alloy wheels.

I'm not sure if its still the same base motor that they use, but going way back to the introduction of the V8 Supercars, Ford had to go away from the 5litre V8 they were using here, and took a motor from the racing parts bin in the US. This was because the block wasnt sufficiently strong to handle the power outputs that they required from it. IF its the same motor, they getting power outputs that are not too far off from production motors now and this may also be a limitation. The Holden V8 is well known, but as a response they also went to the GM parts bin and used a Chev product.
