Interesting slant on this....Ford buy's Landrover cause it want's the strong brand name and suddenly they are reviving the "Bronco" and I will be dammed if it doesn't look a whole lot like a Defender..... 8O 8O ...after all their fun with the "Exploder" it was probably cheaper to buy Landrover and market Landrovers under the Ford lable, than expose Ford to a sea of Lawyers.............
Ace: Yep, that's what I said.
Medic: I agree.
i must admit it is a weird play on the Bronco from Fords perspective as they always looked like a SWB version of the F-Series trucks... i can't see why they wouldn't still be doing that as this would p*ss off any true Bronco fans... i personally love the broncos, and it was always a toss up between that or a LR 8O
Could be that as so much development has gone into the Landrover platform that it was eiser to make the Defender a Bronco as well, rather than try to develop the Bronco as a seperate vehicle. The logical extention to this would see the Disco and posssibly others marketed under the Ford badge also ???..... 8O 8O :?
You are spot on Medic...but the nightmare scenario of the LR brand being dissolved into Ford will not happen, or at least I would not think so.Quote:

As with most large companies, the 'brand' is a more valuable asset than much of the tangible infrastructure of companies. As we have seen with Jaguar, Aston Martin etc etc, Ford has recognised that these brands hold more value than the 'Ford' brand would in their respective market segments.
It is unlikely, except for probably in the US, that Ford would 'badge-engineer' LR products. Ford in the 4x4 market in Australia means 'Exploder' and the F-series....Land Rover is easily the more respected brand.
I am becoming more and more comfortable with the Ford marriage and see that the relationship can actually deliver more strengths to LR, especially in terms of marketing and distribution.

I am with noddy on this one. I cant see Ford dissolving the Land Rover name, or any other for that matter and re-badge it Ford. Could you Imagine a Jag driver going out and buying a Jag with a Ford badge on it, Some of the more image concious owners want to be distinguishable from the Ford Ghia/Fairlane drivers. The same applies for Land Rover, Ford wont want the strong brand name and image which 4wders are accustomed to. Its in fords best interest to keep names like Astin Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover, all the hard work has been done, these are already well established names in the automotive industry. Matt

Don't think it will go that far but I can see a bit of "Re-badging" happening as a short term mesure in some of the smaller markets. I think that Ford ownership will be far better for Landrover than BMW ever was...

Amen to that, BMW only bought land rover to get hold of all the technology they were working on. Matt
So now all we have to do is get Ford/ Landrover to build and sell the thing.... :? :?: :? :?....in the options that we want..... 8O 8O 8O .......
