To do the POm way properly you would be doing the exit from the right lane at about 20 kph while looking to the right. Esp. At the SP or Foodworld ones

I'm from Melbourne, so I just drive straight into them and then go which ever direction I need to...:D

It's very easy to spot tourists on that one...:D. I have a mate that works at the Bob Jane store on the top end of that round about - he tells me about all the accidents that happen there - even now, after the lights have gone in.

I just wish people would obey the rule to "Give Way to traffic entering or in the roundabout" instead of stopping and giving way to traffic on their right, ridiculous, Regards Frank.

The authorities put roundabouts in some places that buses and trucks just have to go over them :o
I just wonder if the problem is only in Tasmania or the same happens in other states.

Spot on Frank, the idea of the roundabout is to speed up the flow of the traffic and far to many drivers do not understand it.

Hmm seems that when I was taught they where using the pom method. Only indicate when turning left or right. Way easier as the other traffic knows exactly what your intention is. Also it seems that there has been over time changes in the rules which has resulted in some motorists not up with the latest rules, me included. Bit daft really all this indicating right and left as you travel in the round about.

see where Im from they breed em big and the prevailing logic always was.

a round about is a series of continuous right hand turns and you turn left to leave.

if you were going straight through from the right hand lane you didnt indicate on the way in you just indicated out in the straight ahead position BUT you couldnt turn left.

essentially you could only go two ways in the left lane, left (so you indicated left) or straight (you indicated right then once you passed the left turn you indicated left to exit at the second exit)

if you were in the right lane you could only go straight or right so you didnt indicate went in and then indicated left to leave at the second exit and if you were going right you indicated right, carried on past the second exit with your indicator on and then indicated left to complete your right turn.

you also couldnt change lanes in a round about.

fun side note, theres at least 3 roundabouts in australia that are so large or obstructed you cant see all the exits from where you enter

with the way the idiots around here drive roundabouts are a case of I indicate roughly where I want to go, keep an eye on the right side and beat them into the roundabout forcing them to give way to me because

"A vehicle approaching a roundabout must give way to all vehicles already on the roundabout."

works well for me, as generally anything bigger is going to be slower so I'll be out of its way long before anything happens and as a jazz owner turning right from the left lane without indicating found out, 5+t of discovery, dirt and steel trailer doing 10 KPH straight ahead tends to win against 1.not much more t of plastic, crumple zone and bald tyres doing 40 into the tandem.

After all isn't "Might of way" the general rule for the NT...

(and in case anyone is interested the jazz drivers biggest mistake was, in front of about 5 witnesses, saying "I didnt see your trailer")
