    yep that's what I was going to suggest. The older swifts are still good little run abouts with parts easily available should you need them

    my sister bought a new daihatsu little crap box looking thing about 10years ago. little 3cylinder motor, manual gearbox .... You know, the little heap of **** was un-killable. My father heard it rattle up the drive one day and went out and put some oil in it for her She complained 'cos she had to buy a battery for it at about 6years of age.... and maybe some tyres once.... and that was it. Always started, never broke down.

    She's replaced it with a 3cylinder renault clio turbo. Actually that thing a bloody nice little car, lets see if it can handle her "maintenance" scheudle like the daihatsu thing did.

    I've got a 1999 Suzuki Baleno 3door hatch, fantastic little runabout, keeps going and going and got a bit of get up and go to if you put your foot down. Heaps of room in the back with the rear seats down. You could get a very good one for your budget.
