Was definitely worse than the photo makes it out to be.
Did the repair today. Here is another pic of CV joint

Did you end up getting a new one, or go for a second hand one?
It sure made a loud bang when it went, as I was standing very close by when it occurred.
Second hand. Having been told by Ritters that they normally don't give problem I figured a genuine SH would probably be better than a $100 Chinese job off eBay.
The SH one also came complete with axle which turned out to be a bonus, as the axle splines were a bit ordinary, as was the axle end, which we suspect could have been caused by driving it 90 odd kays to get it home with all the pieces grinding away at the axle.
