Thanks Bob, now Blamey, there's a complex figure, some great skills and deep flaws, but imagine having to work for McArthur !

Stuart Town in NSW if I recall correctly, was once the subject of an AB Patterson poem; "The man from Ironbark".
Patsy and I travelled through Stuart town one Saturday a few years ago when some sheep dog trials were on. We were stopped by a mob of sheep crossing the road and I commented on how one or two of the attending pups need a bit more training (in jest, merely to pass the time of day to the apologetic cocky) and he invited us in to the show.
We spent the rest of the day there and had an absolutely wonderful and educational time, fed by the local CWA, shown around by a dog breeder, had the intricacies of trialling explained by another breeder's wife and sadly had to tear ourselves away in time to get to our next destination.
What a friendly little town it is.
I have no idea why it changed from "Ironbark" to "Stuart Town" though.
    Regards
    Glen

Speaking of Banjo Paterson, he had a real job, outside of poetry. Two, if you count being a war correspondent in South Africa. What was his day job? Bob

    Australia's Real Baptism of Fire

Here's one, and Bob i mentioned it in an earlier post:

First overseas Military Mission by the Australian Commonwealth
First joint operation by Australian Army & Navy
First amphibious landing by Australian wartime forces
First Australian land operation in WW1
First Australian death in WW1, (although this has recently been disputed)
    First recorded act of bravery
First offensive shells fired by the Navy
First bayonet charge by Australians against Germans in German territory

    and a lot more firsts.
