Tall Tail

Speaking of things you see on the road.... (short story)

Many months ago, Bundaberg QLD had very heavy rainfall, and unfortuneatly it occured on the night before a mate of mine and myself were travelling to a town south of here to view an in-service Army Perentie for photographic purposes.
Rainfall was so dramatic that river crossings leading out of the town were under at least 2 metres of water in some parts, and particular causeways with lower water levels were only crossable by 4X4's. Luckily our vehicle of choice was an Ex-Army Series 3 FFR Landy. No Worries!

Crossed masses of reasonably deep (but safe) water with no problems (photos taken to prove it - basically wasted time by dropping me off and taking photos of landrover pushing through water many times to get the "right shot". Also have photos of a Ford Sedan that wasn't quite that lucky the night earlier being sweeped of a causeway and submerged half way under water on the side of the highway)

Anyways.... the causeway that we had plowed through earlier that day was subsiding on our return and there would have been about a quarter of a foot of water remaining across the road.
Moving very quickly, but slow enough for us both to witness it.... was a very strange movement in the water that shot in a straight line across the road in front of the landrover which confused us as to what it was.
In the last moment before it disappeared.... it was identified as a large fish very very far away from home! That being that the closest river was many kilometres away!

Fish crossing signs required on highways from now on....

Regards,
Cul
