The Renault Dauphine and the 750 got many young poorer families a family car that was better than the pre-war mechanical braked wood framed tourers of the 20's/30's,those that could not afford Austin A40's or Morris Minors which was the post war vehicle for small families the larger being Vangards, and Austin A70's with Wolseys and Rovers for the more moneyed folk, with the large family having Ford's V8,the Holden from 48 through to 55 having a waiting list months long.
A lot of the European and rear engine cars did not cope to well with Australian conditions and parts were always scarce.
If you read the story of Tatra, you'll learn that Ferdie Porche got the design cues for the beetle from the designer of Tatra cars.

Oops, 'read first unread' shot me too far ahead. This has already been mentioned.

Surely the new Playdo has to rate a mention. They've done an okay job of the 200, but the lines are disproportionate on the smaller body.

I'm surprised no-one's mentioned the "cane toad":

At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.
