very, and stinks badly. But the main problem is that the chemicals imbed themselves into the metal. This means that when you have to weld the spot you patched the weld may not take and you have to cut out that piece of pipe and replace it. almost found this out the hard way, fortunately the weld held.

SAE = UNF & UNC & NPTP & NPTT = amercian engineering standards

UNF - unified national fine

UNC - unified national coarse

NPT (P and T) = national pipe thread (parrallel and Tapered)

the british have their own standards

BSF - british standard fine

Whitworth - very similar to unc except for 1/2" thread pitch and thread angle on all sizes and this has an effect on the minor diameters of the threads.

BSPP and BSPT = british standard pipe (parallel and tapered)

and then there is metric

and metric usually consists of a fine thread pitch and a coarse thread pitch for each size of bolt etc etc etc

metric and SAE both have a thread angle of 60 degrees

i forget more than i remember of this stuff...

actually an AF size is the size measured from one flat to the flat on the other side of the hex head eq 1/2" AF is 1/2" wide on the hex head and about 5/6" major thread diameter from memory...

whitworth is measured on the major diameter of the thread

therefore 1/2" whit has a diameter of 1/2" and a hex head way bigger than 1/2"

make sense?

i carry the good ol greek tool kit(big shifter and big chisel)
and some good ol aussie parts (a length of fence wire)

for really remote travel i also take a roll of insulating tape

the shifter can be used as a hammer as well (dual purpose)

this all makes for a light compact tool kit everyone should carry at all times.





oh ****.....i almost forgot......punctures.........i always carry a packet of
mr wrigleys finest.

Before I even think of loading the fender with tools or spares, for a trip

The first and most important item is placed in a safe place ..... :?:
