    Has anyone bought a Jeeeeep

    Gday All,

The eldest daughter has finally given up on the Holden Astra and is looking at a Jeep or similar. Smallish economical soft roader.

So if yes which 1 and good/bad.

    Cheers Ean

There seems to be lots on the road these days but whether it's because they're good or just down to the advertising...."you bought a JEEEP" who knows.

A friend of mine has a 2 door wrangler. It is a TJ? Model about 10 years old. He has had it from new and done about 250,000km without a problem. He gets it serviced by a independent jeep mechanic. I have driven it recently and it is a great car.

Thanks, they are definately on the cheap end of the softroaders.

Would be keen to know about the new versions, the TJ wrangler have always seemed a good car.

A TJ wrangler is far from a Soft roader...

I wouldn't be putting Jeep and economical in the same sentence either, but I suppose I should ask, what model is she looking at?

    Cheers

Jeep and economical do not go together. My Neighbour has a 12 month old Wrangler and he loves it, but its overall consumption is 16LPH KM. He can't drive past a servo in it. It doesn't bother him, but if your looking for cheap running, then this is not the car for you.

The Grand Cherokee has a Mercedes Diesel in it which returns great figures, but that will run to nearly $60K

All the smaller stuff runs American petrol engines - do the Maths yourself...

The Patriot is 2WD, so don't even consider it.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

SWMBO has a 2011 JK wrangler unlimited ( 4 door ) It now has 100K on it and we are very happy with it. Not sure what your girl's budget is but 2007 JK two doors with 120,000 KM can be had for 15 - 17K
They had an interior update in 2011 and a new motor in 2012, both are worthwhile if the budget stretches that far.
There are a few gotchas with lifting the suspension but a 2 inch lift is no real problem. Ours gets around 13lt/100Km on petrol and a 2 door would do a little better. The Wrangler is every bit as capable as my D3, it's just not as comfortable.
If looking for one ensure that you get the hard top, that way you can either take it off or leave it on as you please, not all the early ones were sold with a hard top as it was an option.
Regarding Fuel economy the previous model (TJ) had the 4.0 litre six cylinder which is not so economical being an old engine design. We drove a liberty in the US which was sold as the cherokee here and the engine was the best thing about it, it had the pentastar engine which got good economy and had more power than the engine in our Wrangler.

Hope this is of some help

The car will be a daily driver, doubt very much it will see anything tougher than a dirt road.

Not sure on her budget but think she is caught up in the JEEEEEP adverts.

    Thanks for nthe replys

I bought a new four door JKU Wrangler. 18 months and 17000 kms later I got rid of it. Great car – nothing wrong with it and the Pentastar V6 petrol engine was an economical engine to run.

It was the service charge for a grease, engine oil change, engine oil filter and replacing the diff oils which got me - $1180.00. The next service was an engine oil change, engine oil filter, air filter if needed and replace the spark plugs. Cost – a tad over $2000.00.

Jeep servicing is every six months so costs mount very quickly.
