    Maybe I missed something.

    The first bit

"For your Friday, Australian Mining is once more, after more than three years, showing you the world's largest mining blast ever recorded"

    Ok Australian Minning.

    The second bit

"- Carried out by the Iron Ore Company of Canda ( a subsidiary of Rio Tinto) at its Humphrey South Pit, in Canada, Labrador West."

    Wait what in Canada?

The whole video is about the Canada blast in 1991? It think. Confused.

    Happy Days

They've just drilled and blasted off the whole top of a mountain in Chile for the worlds biggest telescope. Estimated to have been a million ton of rock removed.
I used to love watching the shot being fired when working in mines.

You're right that it is in Canada

Also correct it was posted on an 'Australian Mining' website - called "Australian Mining" but site is www.miningaustralia.com.au

    Yes 1991 -

But I didn't TRY to mislead, the THREAD title is WORLD's largest.

There was/is probably an Aussie working there?

I see your point with the Australian Mining website posting a Canadian video, but obviously/(perhaps?) nothing here has been as big, but the editors have called for submissions. I will add to this thread if they come up with a home grown effort that's on par

    Thanks Alan.

Blasting was the highlight for me too, luckily I often got to choose my involvement and location to capture the best view.

I could never tire of setting up and watching drill&blast, sadly I don't get to site often these days .

    Cheers!

The shifts when i am on charge up are the good ones. But i don't get to see a thing only hear and feel the blast. For those that don't know a great deal about underground mining when we fire a heading you are well and truly away from the blast, but i still get a buzz from hitting the bang button

It wasn't a shot at you mate. Just the link. Now I read it again it's just a tricky play on words. "Australian Mining" being the site name not actually Australian Mining showing the worlds largest mining blast.

Funny. My wife bought some cheapy sunglasses a couple of days ago. The brand only was Polaroid but in the fine print it says these are not Polaroid sunglasses.

Awesome blast anyway. I've watched a few blasts but the best I have seen was 4kg of anfo under a big old gum tree. A mate was clearing a track through some bush to get the tractor through. I doubt the timber would need much chopping with a block buster a few years later when it gets cut up for fire wood. I was the best because we were so close. The instructions were if the rocks start falling around us, don't run because you could get hit in the back of the head, it's better to look up and side step them.

one time...this 'guy' took a visitor (his brother) u/g for a blast (decline 5*5*3m). Parked one level above in an empty stockpile and waited (meshed, 1:9 so about 180m plus about 20m past next vent drive, say 200m round the bend.

Had remembered to keep the windows down just a bit to avoid w/screen breakage (apparently that's happened when others had done it ).

Look on the visitor's face - priceless
