    Lazy Tax

So I received a text the other day from AAMI reminding me my 3rd Party property on my daily falcon was due...

The premium was $382.75!!!!! For a 97 Falcon!!

As always I rang around a few places, (including youi, which I have comprehensive for the rangie with for $400 cheaper than anywhere else) and they wanted $400+!

Keeping in mind this is for basic bomb insurance..

Decided to do an AAMI online quote.. $165.48.

It blows my mind that there can be $200 difference for the same car, which is insured with the same company. Many people I know would've just paid the $382..

Reinforces my view that loyalty means nothing in the insurance industry..

    I have a similar situation.

I have 2 x P38s on the road, one due for rego in June, the other July. Both Green Slips (compulsory 3rd party) are with GIO but the June car is roughly $300 cheaper than the July car.

Do an online quote with GIO, the July car comes down $300.
Looks like I'll be doing a new policy rather than a renewal this year.

Buy it now does always seem a bit steep

Scouse - I've never renewed a policy as I've found my "renewal" to always be the most expensive option. I've even called up to get a discount on renewal for them to say no, but a new policy with same company comes in much cheaper.

Hmmm - that's really interesting. I might have a look at that myself.

I've always checked & have found the odd $ or 2 difference but never as much as $300 before.

Insurance companies seem to be behind the 8 ball on this one. Years ago before the internet you would have just paid up. Now, some people (myself included) check EVERY insurance renewal on the net and 9 time out of 10 you can save bucks by looking around. Insurance Companies don't seem to realise it is easy to check their quotes nowadays, or they are gambling on most of their customers being lazy and just paying up.

There is no loyalty from insurance companies to their customers and I do not offer them any loyalty in return.

I nearly fell off my chair when I got the renewal notice, to then nearly fall off it again when I rang another mob

Ausfree - Exactly what I do and encourage everyone I know to do the same. I'd prefer to save a few hundred bucks a year to spend an hour doing up a few quotes on the net.

The ABC program 'The Checkout' did a story on the issue some time back and concluded that you get paid to walk. The lazy renewers pay extra.
Just watch out that your'e getting the cover you want.

Yep, I do online quotes for everything now - and the difference is sometimes remarkable - $300 in one case.
Now that Suncorp owns several companies the amount of competition seems to have decreased. Last exercise, RACQ and Youi were the best, but we went with RACQ because we already had other policies with them and got a bit more off. Youi was a good quote though, way below AAMI and Allianze.
