The male on the right we called 'Cannon ball' cos he had a big black head.

The female on the left, with the white on her ears, i was going to keep cos she was just like mum,but a lady really wanted her,so she went to a beach house at Lennox heads.

That must be where the expression, puppy dog eyes, came from.

    Banjo & Penny

Here are my two - the B&W is Banjo (nine) and the red is Penny (two and a half). We have a third, Dixie, who is 17 and doesn't come out these days. If anyone in Melbourne has a B&W or brown male with intact bits let me know - we'd like to breed Penny. Sorry about the picture being on its side, it will not load "right way up" no matter what I do...

Sadly my King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, Henry, has one of those horrid hereditary diseases. It is called Syringomyelia. Put simply it is fluid bubbles forming inside his spinal cord. One of its many effects is false nerve signals [orders] being sent to different parts of his body. These caused a bit of a drama one night recently.

He sleeps with me and he woke me with some unusual movements which abruptly stopped. I checked him and he was non responsive and not breathing. Henry had 'died'. I got him restarted by using chest compressions. A couple of hours later he was again non responsive and not breathing. Again I got him restarted.

The cessation of breathing is suspected as being caused by a spurious nerve signal initiated by his Syringomyelia which turned his lungs off. Luckily there have been no complications from this or repeats........thank goodness.

My second oldest granddaughter has a Cavalier King Charles ("Lady") - and this is the sort of thing that worries me. The dog is 12, the kid is 19. She is beginning to realise that Lady is approaching the end of her life, although so far she is OK except for some arthritis.

One of my son's and his wife have one,he is 12 this year as well.He is stone deaf, and has a heart murmur, which is common for this breed.

In his younger years, they trained him to do lots of little tricks, and he still does them today,if asked.

The biggest issue is they are food driven and can easily get overweight, like most Spaniels and Labs.
