I did the same but only because I wanted a Verizon CDMA phone. Previous experience with T-Mobile and AT&T GSM networks had me without reception in many places. I had two phones, one with the T-Mobile SIM, the other was my Aust. phone roaming from Telstra to AT&T in the USA and Rogers in Canada.Quote:

I realise I would have to pay the diversion cost when called by people but it would not amount to much?

I used a Lefrench Mobile sim card on a recent Euro trip. Had no trouble with it. Worked everywhere. All support is in English.
Don't know if it is the best but pretty sure it is probably not the worst out there either. I looked at the Woolworth sim card (and others like it). Didn't like the way it operated - call somebody, hang up and then wait for them to call you back to make the connection.
We've gone back to using our Australian SIM cards. They roam to reliable carriers and we always have service.
The Three cards have been absolutely useless almost everywhere in the UK. They work in some Euro countries, e.g., France and Switzerland, not in Germany or The Netherlands, but we can only ring or text each other (and probably UK numbers), no one else - unless we add more credit and there is no way we are going to do that. We couldn't ring or text Elisabeth's cousin here in Switzerland. We had to revert to our Australian SIMS.
