When my brother worked in the States he told them, "in Australia the sun goes down in the morning and comes up at night" .............. Many were amazed by that 'fact' apparently :D

That only works on MMDDYY because you didn't have different years.
Try sorting this list that way and see what you get.

there is/was a theory going around that the measuring system used in USA is the only one that fits evenly mathematically/harmonically into the light speed/time continuum calculations used in space travel and universal measurement.
metric measurements never fit evenly or harmonically into those calculations
do the other spacerace contenders use imperial measurement?
Just something I read a few years ago.....if it has merit then that may be why they keep their system in place.
Den
Americanisms began the day after tv was introduced here.
There were shows like 77 Sunset strip and a lot of other crap.
In that show there was this kid cookie ( ed byrnes I think ) that started the rot.
When I was in the Nashos there were fools going around daddyoing this and daddyoing that.
Come to think of it for a while we were responsible for claiming that we had the fastest potato on the table. A statement made by Tony Curtis.
Can you remember what that movie was ?
See you'd be presuming that I care when "Ausrtalian Vernacular" was invented. But I don't :D
I don't believe holding on to old ways of speaking or doing things makes us more "interesting" either. I don't really need to find ways to make myself interesting to people from another country :wasntme:
You don't see English people holding onto Shakespearean language in an effort to appear more interesting to others. Their accents are generally enough.
Accent is important and interesting. Preserving old sayings isn't. IMHO of course :D
Here's something interesting regarding Pronouncing words clearly or correctly, using the correct pronunciation(by the way there is no correct way of pronouncing a word, it comes down to the accent apparently)
A language expert(for the life of me I cannot find the artical) explained that the way we(Australians) pronounce words(if spoken without slang) is supposed to be the clearest of all the English speaking countries:eek:
(EG)
"Dollar"
American Dictionary ('daa-lerrh')
English ("daw-le'")
Australian ("Doll-lah")
I wish I could find the artical, maybe someone else can try, it was a woman from one of the Universities in the UK.
Anyway, thought it may be of interest to someone:p
