For some reason my signature strip didnt appear so I should add that Gromit is a 1997 D1 V8 SE with a 2" suspension lift and lots of other extras but fairly stock. Wheel bearings and diff bearings all replaced before trip as were radius arms and trailing arms and bushes. A frame ball joint was also replaced. Springs and shocks were new two years ago and all OK ie nothing broken and still appear to be doing their job.
    Cheers

Just because they're recently replaced doesn't mean they haven't failed or are on the way out.

I'd still be doing as Pat suggested as a first pass ............

Get someone to hold one wheel steady while checking for movement in the opposite wheel and then try opposite sides. Sounds very much like a bearing failure or similar to me too.

Maybe try a PM to LandyAndy - he has a mate living in Derby. Not sure of his mechanical skills, but it's likely that he could at least recommend someone up there.
    Cheers .........

Rovertech in Perth 9350 5633. Whyatts in Geralton 99654333.
I have spare swivel joint seals and top pin that should fit here in Broome if need be. Norwest diesel can crimp a new brake line or BP Clemenston street, right next to my work (Kimberley Truss) can also do it for you. Just speak to Josh. We may also have wheel bearings in stock, if not the bearing dealer here is Field Auto Electrics 9193 5322.
As mentioned I have ramps and you can do it at my place if you like. Contact me on arrival or drop in to 1 Clementson Street, Kimberley Truss. I am the manager here.

The drive on beach at Gantheume beach once a month after work for beers and chat. I will post when the next one is scheduled so anyone coming past can join us. We go upo near the northern limits area and I always fly the Land Rover flag, so we can't be missed.

    Thanks Guys

Well I got the wheels off the ground this morning and the front near side wheel bearing and the rear near side wheel bearing both had play in. I've now adjusted these. The anti sway bar bushes in the rear are totally shot and the front ones don't look great. I have reduced the load on the roof rack and increased the tyre pressures and although not great it is now drivable. So I drove into Derby and got a brake pipe made up. So Gromit is now braking on all four wheels again and not swaying so much. I just need a front crank oil seal to stop his haemorrhaging of oil. John Dayman has just given me some contacts so Ill try those.
    Thanks for the helpful suggestions.
    Cheers

Broome is a small town and not many people will work on Landies and very fe know how to anyway. Suggest you carry service kit with you if coming past as nothing available up here. Any questions give me a call. We have about 12 members up here with vehicles ranging from series 1, 2, 3, Defenders, Counties, TDV6 Disco's, etc. Cheers
