Refreshing....... oh what a feeling.
I feel sorry for them....when the Series 3 Disco hits the road (or off) I wonder how LR will respond if (and most likely when) things start breaking.

I was over at Overlander and could not resist reading through 5 pages of where the 100 Series Boys are committing 'Hari-Kari' over their IFS control arm failures.
It is very interesting reading, you can literally see them lining up at the Nissan dealers...the death of the 'King off the road'!
Worth a look

It was good to see that a Landy owner threw the grenade in and walked away to let them devour each other!
It is like watching evolution in fast forward!

OI -- the big problem with the cracking control arms is that you would think in a few years time they will fail all together and it could get quite serious in terms of accidents and litigation.
I think Toyota are playing a dumb hand...there is a lot of brand damage being done over a what I understand is a $700 warranty claim and recall. I suspect the problem runs deeper in terms of the whole IFS engineering and product development.

Fundamental failure.
The comment on the Hilux IFS being robust and reliable was interesting
I guess that Toyota have lost focus: "where do we pitch the 100 in the market?"
Workhorse or cruiser?
Having said that the investment in all the rest of the vehicle should require getting the basic engineering right.

They were not backward in also highlight some problems with the 78/79 series in terms of gearboxs 8O
I suspect someone is asleep at the wheel of the big Toyo. Good for LR, opportunity to make hay!

Its like Architecture (and I can say this because that is my background)
No matter how good a building looks if it leaks then you have failed utterly because one of the fundamental requirements of a building is that it provides shelter from the elements.
Its a good thing that Land Rover doesn't mention shelter as a feature.
Anyone who makes a 4wd and the front end falls off as a matter of course has failed.
Maybe Toyota is selling new clothes to the Emperor. 8O

saab had the same problem with cracking lower control arms.
now thats supposed to be a luxury vehicle which should never go off road.
you never realise how many of a certain type of vehicle are on the road till there is some kind of recall. we were getting control arms come in by the truckload.
now the defenders have some sort of recall on their brakes.
i received a letter a while ago to go back to the dealer and have them checked - something about losing efficiency.
range rover had a recall on the fuel filter bracket. it wasnt powder coated properly or some thing an may rust hence dropping the fuel filter which could chafe the hose and leak and start a fire or worsen fuel economy or something.
recalls are a standard procedure but definitely more fun on toyos.
i hope all the front ends drop off might just shut them up for awhile 8O 8O
