Have you any idea whats invoked in the British TA SAS selection CSE?. Its tough! and Bear Grylls is badged.

Just as a side note the only member of the Bravo Two Zero mission to have carried out successful escape and evasion measures from the Iraqis in the first gulf war was an EX TA SAS trooper.

As for representing Land Rover, he does portray the adventure image which I think LR has failed to do in the last few years. Certainly since the dropping of the G4 Challenge.
I think its a good move on LRs part. LR needs a hero and who in the market age group in the UK, Europe, USA and Asia has heard of the Aussie out-back heroes ? Les Hiddings was big here, so was a good move for JRA in the 80s

I've no personal experience of what is or is not required to gain selection to the SAS or then get 'discharged' or retired or whatever the correct phrase is, but from reading his book (so I'm taking his word for it....) he served for three years and then broke his back in a parachuting accident and spent around 12months in/out of military hospital.
Seems like a reasonable excuse to 'retire' to me!

I never really got into his 'man vs wild' programmes, but the ones that I did watch I just took as face value that he is only showcasing what you can do in certain survival situations. Maybe I just have healthy cynicism for what's on the telly, but I was never outraged at all the 'oh he's faking it, he's not really staying out in the wild, he scuttles off to a luxury hotel for the night...'
Meh, who cares? It's just entertainment on the telly.

To me it doesn't diminish his abilities, I'm sure he's a damn sight better survival expert than I am and I think he's a great brand ambassador for LR.
A sort of younger Les Hiddins for those who have unfortunately not heard of Les (or are too young to remember!).
