He was a SAS reserve trooper so would have to be reasonably tough and not a dill to have passed the test I would have thought........

He passed selection and wore the beret, which is more than you or Les Hiddens would be capable of!
All the same I did enjoy Les' series.

IIRC he was a Marine first, then selected and Beret qual, done Everest a couple of times and other expditions. In my my mind that ranks him as a do-er. BUT!!
Where we part ways is the dangerous BS he proposed in his shows. Now i know he isn't the writer/producer but he is participating.
I constantly have to correct his misdirections when I teach emergency response/ survival.
I see that now he is no longer under contract with the other Discovery, he is talking a little more sense and even correcting some of the poor suggestions.

At the end of that clip Brett linked to, I think Bear is well aware as to what he is doing.
"It doesn't matter how big and brave you are or how clever you are, or how smart you are, if stuff happens at the wrong time, you're dead."
He did serve three years in the SAS before being discharged due to a back injury (ripped parachute). Since then he has done some amazing stuff.
No matter what the rumors are about the shows (staying in motels instead of roughing it), his shows are great entertainment value. I think using Bear to publicize Landrover is just as good as using Lara and Les.

    No offence intended 85 County.

I do cringe at a lot of the stuff he does, but in the end sit back and watch his shows for the entertainment value. Thank goodness even my kids question his antics !
After cheating death a couple of times I don't think he needs to take so many risks for the TV, especially considering he has a young family.

    no offence taken
and i agree with your comments, why should anyone take risks for a TV show, its easy enough to die with out.
But when a program is promoted as being factual as opposed to just entertaining then i have an issue. i also have an issue that is is presented as being someone or some thing that he is not.

if you really want to see hero's, look at the Atapupu action, or closer to home the aussie SAS AT guys, they are mostly fubard nowadays, and the aussie government will not even look after them
