I thought there were a few Van Der Merwes on the forum.
I know its a weird question but I would like some translations of automotive technical terms in Afrikaans. I have some translations from an internet translator bot, but would be interested if they were both linguistically and technically correct. i.e. is that the term that would be used as automotive technical language in Afrikaans .
In English: -------------------------------Internet Translated Afrikaans.
Warning: ------------------------------ Waarskuwing
Non-Standard trailer wiring: ------------ Nie-standaard bedradingstel
Reversing Lamp: ----------------------- omkeer lamp
Service Brakes (electric trailer brakes): - diens remme
Vehicle ground (earth): ---------------- voertuig grond
Blackout Stop: ------------------------ verduistering stop.
The reason that I want these is that I have an ex-SADF vehicle on which I will be modifying the wiring in the trailer socket and I want to clearly label in case someone thinks about using it with a standard wired trailer.
All the other ID and instruction plates are in both English and Afrikaans and I want to continue the theme.

Hello from Brisbane.
If a real Afrikaner fails to materialise from within AULRO in the next little while, there are a few lurking around the workplace that I might be able to coax the right translation from.
Cheers,
Hello again.
I have sent a copy of your request to a colleague in Zimbabwe for whom Afrikaans is the native tongue - he also knows something about four wheel drives etc which might help out a bit.
Cheers,
wat presies wil jy weet? - or "what exactly do you want to know?"
A few of those words do not make sense to me and I'd use a better term.
Reversing lamp - tru-lamp (omkeer means turning over - maybe there is a better word but we used to use reverse as well) tru means terug or back - so backing lamp? hopefully someone else has the correct term.
Non-standard trailer wring - nie-standaard bedrading or bedradingstelsel (bedrading means wiring and can be used on it's own - stelsel means system so can be wiring system - suppose you could use either)
The rest looks ok to me, but then I have been here for quite some time!
Hi Louis
This is exactly what I'm asking for, and why no one should ever trust translation bots!
Perhaps I should have expressed it better by merely posting the English terms I want the technical Afrikaans term of.
The English terms I want the Afrikaans for: .
Warning:
Non-Standard trailer wiring: Is the "trailer" redundant or understood? Now "nie-standaard bedrading"
Reversing Lamp: now "tru-lamp"
Service Brakes (electric trailer brakes):
Vehicle ground (earth):
Blackout Stop: (these are part of the military blackout system, on my SADF vehicle they are WWII convoy lamps as used on Canadian Military Pattern trucks with a red lens that operate only when in blackout/convoy mode).
