Philipinno volcano about to blow it's top

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I have one of my team currently in Manila doing some work.

We have been joking that he is cursed.

Just before he left their security forces stopped some terrorists literally assembling a bomb at the front of the airport, last weekend they got hit by a typhoon and now the volcano!

More large quakes for the pacific rim forecast, although I can't help feeling it is not an exact science, Bob

More big 'Ring of Fire' quakes likely, say scientists › News in Science (ABC Science)

    I've seen that volcano live.
A friend's family comes from the nearby city. In a previous eruption the lava which built up on the sides of the mountain was dislodged by a cyclone and flowed down the sides to bury the city to a depth of 2-3 metres. Our friend's family's house collapsed in the cyclone and was washed away. We helped raise the money to rebuild the house. Thousands of people died and the streets were littered with bodies.
Later we visited. It was an eye-opener to get out of the plane and the city was on the right of the runway and the volcano was smoking away on the left, a few kilometres away. It was surreal to walk in areas where the rubble was still higher than our heads.
There have been many eruptions in the past. In one in the early 1800s more than a thousand people rushed into the Catholic cathedral thinking they'd be safe because it was the strongest building in the city. The lava buried the cathedral until only the belltower stuck out of the ground and they all died. We walked on the ground covering the cathedral's roof and stood next to the bell tower. A new cathedral has been built next door.
Why don't they move? Its a substantial city and the only area most residents have ever known. Its also a very poor area and people have nowhere else to go and not enough money to pay to relocate, so they have to say.
I pray my friend's family will be safe.

I've subscribed to this mob [ free] They send E-mails of quakes over 6.0 [ day] & 6.5 [ night]. You get an idea of the pattern of quakes around the place, interesting, Bob

    Ay Bob,
    How ya been?
You can sign up to Geoscience Australia and get info about local Earthquakes as well. After a while you will get the feel (no pun) for what is really going on around the joint. We are all definitely on the move.......
    Cheers.

All good, mate, just the usual age issues. Thanks for the link. Got one for you, bit scary, really, when you look at the fault lines stretching from Melbourne to Adelaide. Interesting, though, the Earth is alive. Bob
