For those who say fee paying websites dont work, any Ozi Explorer or Ausfish members please put your 2 Bobs worth in.

Wasn't talking about user pays, talking about the content of general chat, I have an elephants memory, sometimes. Bob
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

cloud computer is becoming big thing.
Perhaps you havent been around that long.Myself and other moderators/members have been involved in fund raising efforts in the past to buy new servers as older units failed to keep this place running at the speed people DEMAND.Withouth those efforts we may not have been here now for the likes of you to ask why something like AULRO should cost ANYTHING to run, despite all the volounteers helping Dave out.

no users, no forums. its very simple.

charging users will mean less users.

as long as we all know and accept that as a consequence.
I am a subscriber, I try to give help to others. But I am not so arrogant as to think that I alone can supply more information than the other thousands of contributors on this forum. I have been helped the odd few times by other forum contributors. This would not be happening without a mechanism on which people can interact - a forum. The forum needs to be paid for to survive. For that service I am willing to pay. If you think the contributions you make are worth more than the contributions made by the thousands of others to which you have access, then setup a forum and charge people for your services. Supply and demand will decide your fate.

    Cheers,
    Tom.

    P.S. No forum, no users.

I found this forum and the people within it so helpful that I subscribed to it even before I put the order in for my Defender.

Can't recall what level I went for but happy to pay more if it helped keeping it ticking over for the long term.

Thanks to everyone on here who have already made my transition in land rover ownership a much more rewarding and interesting experience than I expected.

Excuse me Inc, just a thought, not knowing if it has been considered, so please mods don't read anything into it (not a conspiracy!).

Would LRA be interested in a sponsorship?

Reason I suggest it is that they mention the site in their very recent exclusive welcome packs for new owners. This site (from examples I've read) has allowed users to diagnose faults and share this with their LR dealer, sometimes leading to a Topix release or similar alert.

I believe there is an overall positive relationship between this site and LRA that would be mutually beneficial (includes continuity).

So confirming, I'm a subscriber, don't have a problem with the status quo, just suggesting additional avenues.

    Carry on...

I've never been a forum kinda guy before. Until I happened upon aulro. I was a parasite for a while. Then I gained a glimpse of what was involved in supporting/maintaining the freeby ride I was enjoying. And began to appreciate the value I gained from being a part of this forum.

Happy to continue subscribing for all the value it brings. Cheap at twice the cost.
