Sorry to hear about the health issues Dave, hope you stay well.
I too have learned and saved a heap from reading the forum, still lots to learn.
Re the silly off topic chat, I wouldn't miss it, it would save me getting involved in comment that achieves nothing and wasting time
Costs proposed are fair, who knows how it will go, but as you mention, if you don't do it, then we do know where it will go. It would be sad to lose the knowledge database...
Cheers and good luck!
The forum has never moved away from that concept. Go to the parking lot, outdoor pastimes, technical forums [ plenty of knowledgeable people there] , heaven forbid, there is even a non Land Rover technical chat section. As long as the description of General chat remains the same,
"General Chat Almost anything goes, have a look and drop in a few lines. Think of it as a campfire chat with the kids around."
then within whatever guidelines management decides, members may post non 4WD or even Non Land Rover posts. Yes, sometimes it gets a bit silly, but mostly that's all for a bit of a laugh. And don't we need that now. One thing I have to say , you don't have to open a thread you don't like. Bob
Just one more thing, I hope you are well, now Dave, . Bob
Thanks Dave, hope you keep well. I look back over some of my seemingly stupid questions. To me they indicated that I had some sort of problem...computers etc. Never once have I been told off for being a dumbo and members here were polite and helpful. Thanks all. Jim
Personally, I have no problem sifting through the political diatribes to get to the content I'm interested in. If I'm reading a topic I'm interested in, and it starts to turn in a direction I'm not interested in, I'll either stop reading it, or just ignore the posts that aren't on-topic. Nobody ever forces me to read what they've written.
I never feel the need to chime in with my personal opinion, and nobody else's opinion ever bothers me - everybody is entitled to their own opinion.
I actually find some of the threads quite amusing, as people wind themselves and each other up over a difference of opinion.
Cheers!
Yep,spot on x2 well said. The forum is packed with 4wd and outdoor segments. General chat is,well, general chat. I have learnt more off the more educated and travelled members on this forum than i get from normal news outlets. And when blokes put up links that explain the subject even further it is rewarding. But i fully understand why changes need to be made, threads turning into a personal slug fest is not on. But i will miss the robust discussion that some of the threads bring to the surface, having members that really care and are passionate about subjects is one of the things that make AULRO worth every cent of the very low subscription fee.:D
Dave, I hope you have sorted the health problems and have many more years of contentment and good health for you and yours.
I dont wish to be morbid but this Forum has been my savior for a number of years.
I have had a bit of a concern. With all of these revelations and changes,
please bear with me.
What happens to the Forum if you kick the bucket ? hopefully years and years after I bite the dust, but.
