Current Affairs Section Where Discussion About Contentious Topics Takes Place

Just a reminder there is a area in this forum where mature open discussion takes place everyday and so far without any angry exchanges. If you want to discuss potentially contentious topics without the abuse then maybe the Current Affairs section is for you.

    cheers,
    Terry

New Subscriber Only Current Affairs Section Has Started.

    Ladies and gentleman,

As we all know things had got way out of hand with comments and heated replies on what normally would be called current affairs topics, but mainly it was religion and politics etc. Aulro is a open forum that anyone from the public can log in and see and unfortunately it was getting very unpleasant so that kind of debate had to be stopped.

As we all know this is a Land Rover forum not a political discussion board. Having said that, I have put up my hand to moderate a closed subscriber only section which is called Current Affairs (CA) that members will need to apply to join, if they want to once again have open discussions on the various non Land Rover related topics

There are rules however as it will not be a free for all, first up, its only open to members who have made at least 100 comments previously and who are a paid up subscriber at some level.

Those wanting to be involved will need to PM me saying they would like to subscribe to the Current Affairs section. Once a members request is okayed, which might take a day or so, then they will be able to enter the Current Affairs section which is located at the bottom of the General Forums listing.

As I said this new section is not a free for all and personal abuse and or insulting language towards other members will not be tolerated. Plus all other basic rules of the forum will also need to be respected.

There will be a warning given for any post with personal abuse in it and the post will then be deleted, if the abuse continues on after that then the member will be given a holiday without warning from the Current Affairs section and if after that a member continues on with abuse then their access to the CA section will be closed off permanently without appeal.

By the way Mods who moderate in this new section will not comment on any topic in the current Affairs section.

Comments in any other section of Aulro relating to the subscriber only Current affairs section will not be acceptable. What happens and is said in the Current Affairs section stays in the Current Affairs section.

If a topic gets to hot and out of control then the thread will be closed.

There is no reason why we can't have a adult current affairs discussion area on Aulro where most topics can be discussed openly providing everyone acts in a respectful and mature way to the other members. The only thing is for it to happen it needs to be in a closed subscribers only section so the public can't see it and other members who have no interest in these types of topics can't see it either.

So let's work together and give it a go and see if we can get it right this time round, this is a work in motion so I ask that those of you who decide to become involved have some patience as we work through this new section and if need be alter the basic rules if and when required. I look forward to your feedback.

The Current Affairs section will stay out of sight and out of mind and only open to subscribers who can then debate all the topics that are to contenous for the Aulro open forums which can be seen by the public.

Plus for good reason many Aulro members don't actually want to see political and religous debates either so it needs to stay closed to those that do.
    Cheers,
    Terry

It was done before with restricted access and did not work - what makes AULRO think it will work it this time.

Why not just keep AULRO as a 4wd and related subjects site and create a new Forum (not a section of AULRO) called the "Silly Out Farts - Letters to the Editor" Forum.

    dont think I'll bother.
Since the changes to the FORUm the other day I realise that I dont spend
near as much time on it.
I actually went for a walk on the beach on Saturday and yesterday I poked my head under the bonnet of Me Disco.
    Didn't and doesn't hurt a bit.

No one is being forced to participate or even read the new Current Affairs section in fact it has been set up so members who don't want to see it don't have to.

Its there for those Land Rover owners who also like to debate topics other than just talk about their Land Rovers.

Again its a closed section that is only there for those who want to be involved. Why get cranky about something that you can't see?
