    Discos revenge

Traded my D2 TD5 in last week on an Amarok. Due to the mounting faults ( 3 amigos ) oil leaks and just general rundown old age ( it's a 2001 ) I was willing to take a low trade in value.
Today when I went to pick it up, the 3 Amigos came out to play and the wholesaler wouldn't take it for the same price. I applied some pressure and got the deal done. But Jeez it took the enjoyment out of the purchase.

You should have given us an option on here, at least it would have gone to people who care. Even if it's for parts to keep others running. I don't imagine it would have been a very good trade in price. People are scared to touch them.
    Cheers, David.

We traded our 2001 D2 in on an Amarok, after taking everything off it, we got $6000 for it 3yrs ago.

You'll love the Rok, not as good offroad as the D2, but it tows better and is a brilliant car to drive, so comfy

That is providing your flywheel does not fall apart.
    Dave.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

Or fuel pump regulator leaks, the oil in the harness doesn't drive you insane, can't open the back door after 100ks on a dirt road, clutch ****s itself, head gasket goes, manifold warps and snaps studs, oil pump bolt lets go, 3 amigos

    Should I go on

It would almost certainly still be comfortable if that happened, just a little slower...

My young bloke is in the process of getting rid of my old D2 and replacing it with a new Amorok as well. Don't know if he's going to trade it or sell privately yet - depends on the offers he gets.

I went with him to test drive a couple of Amorok's a couple of weeks ago - still wouldn't mind one of them myself.

His biggest decision will be manual or auto. He's a bit concerned with the auto not having low range. But I got him to run an auto up a pretty steep embankment when we took it for a test drive (much to the disdain of the sales rep who was in the vehicle with us). Holding the auto in low gear, it crawled up there easily - plenty of torque even at low revs. For what he wants the vehicle for, the auto should easily do everything he wants to.

One thing that we learnt while at the VW dealers is not to take any notice of what the sales reps tell you. The one that we had knew absolutely nothing about the vehicles. Was even trying to tell us that they don't have a leaf sprung rear end - even though there was one parked right next to his desk inside the showroom and you could clearly see the leaf springs inside the rear wheel arch. Got me buggered how some of these idiots get a job.
    Cheers .........

I thought about selling it to forum members, but I would have had to tell you'se what was wrong it. Most of the above, or at lest due.

Took the Amarok off road yesterday and it preformed quite well. Traction control and hill descent is generations ahead of the D2. Had a lot of fun with the stability control, (which can't be switch completely off ) the off road mode allows you to hange the tail out abit, than it pulls it back in line. Than you hit the button to deactivate TC and you hang it out drift style and pulls it back again. Makes a crap driver look good.
I still not sure about auto or manual, but the manual has deep low range.
