    Slim Dusty tribute truck

    Gday All,

Drove a roadtrain from Darwin to Townsville to Brisbane. We were stopped at a roadhouse in Charters towers and came out to find this truck parked alongside us.

The paintwork was unreal, the Slim Dusty portrait was smicko.

Glad I wasn't paying the paint job bill.

Apparently they have 4 or 5 of these all dedicated to Aussie Legends.

    Cheers Ean

    Gday Brian,

All went well mate, and it was great to catch up, took another hour for the truck to get unloaded at the cold store. The road from Charters Towers to Roma is not my favourite road to drive that's for sure, may have been ok in a D3/D4 but not in a truck with 3 trailers. Seen more roo's on that road than I have seen in my lifetime.

How was the trip home in the 6x6.?

    Cheers Ean

Pleased to hear the trip was ok. Yeah no shortage of skippy's out that way. Quess you introduced a few to the bitumen
Had a good trip home, no problems at all. Sat on 80-85k all the way and got out of the way of the traffic whenever I could. Being an old Mack gear cruncher myself I managed to get out of the way before any of the linehaul boys had to slow down. It went well, I was impressed
Spent today installing the rear axle driveshafts and checking a few other things out and I think we are going to have a good relationship
Was great to catch up with you, thanks again for all your help and next time we might have time for a relaxing ale or two.
    Cheers......Brian

Funnily enough the roo's were well trained, they seemed more interested in eating the grass than the metal bulbar. There is some prestine contry around that Carnarvon ranges area, will definately take the D3 and the camper and have a good look around that area.

It was a big comfortable truck so no complaints. Glad to hear the Landy performed that good and am sure you will get good service out of it.

So you got the Darwin one Brian? How far did you drive it?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

G'day Ian, Yep the incomplete and non operational one in Darwin. Just from Townsville to home. With Eans help I got it trucked from Darwin to Townsville. Was originally going to drive it all the way but for what it cost to piggyback it wasn't worth driving it, but I am sure it would have made it ok, turned out to be bugger all wrong with it, just missing the rear axle driveshafts.

Yes, the Carnarvon/Arcadia valley area is nice country, I used to pull scrub with D9's in that area in my younger days. It is well worth a bit of time spent there.
